Take pride in serving these distinctive rolls. Makes 18 rolls.
(Traditional Method)

Ingredients

1 cup Water
2 Tbsp. Oil
2 Tbsp. Sugar
1 tsp. salt
3 cups Bread Flour
1-1/2 tsp. SAF Gourmet Perfect Rise Yeast

Filling
1 Tbsp. Water
8 ounces (2 cups) Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/4 cup Fresh Minced Onion

Instructions

Combine yeast, 1 cup bread flour, salt and yeast; mix well. Heat water and oil to 120º to 130ºF; add to flour mixture. Blend at low speed; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand, gradually stir in enough of the remaining bread flour to make a firm dough. Knead on floured surface 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place dough in lightly oiled bowl; turn to grease top. Cover; let rise until dough tests ripe.

RISING, SHAPING, AND BAKING

On lightly floured surface, roll or pat dough to a 12- x 18-inch rectangle. Brush dough with water; sprinkle with cheese and onion. Roll up, beginning at wide side. Pinch edge of dough into roll to seal well. Cut roll into 1 inch slices. Place rolls slightly apart on greased baking pans. Cover; let rise until indentation remains after lightly touching side of roll. Bake in a preheated 375ºF oven until rolls are golden brown, approximately 15 minutes. Brush with garlic butter, if desired.
